BoatsWest Event coverage of Seattle's Opening Day 2006
May 5th & 6th, 2006Photos of the crew races and festivities. Sponsored by the Seattle Yacht Club, this event featured crew races from Lake Washington, under the Montlake Bridge, through Montlake Cut, and into Portage Bay. Spectators in a row of boats formed the first leg and those on land lined the Cut and bridge to cheer them on. University of Washington Band brought an even more celebratory nature to this event, heightening enthusiasm from the crowd. Following the races was a parade of boats of all types from super yachts to classic runabouts. A "Caribbean Carnival" theme was present on most of the boats (and even some crew racers), with decorations of inflatable palm trees to flamingo hats. A good time was had by all.
